Abrasion resistance and low adhesion for forming technology

Silicon nitride is suitable for tools used in forming technology for extrusion, extrusion or drawing of metallic materials and/or particle-reinforced plastics. Decisive for the suitability is the high hardness and abrasion resistance. Equally decisive is the low adhesion of the metals and the high strength, corrosion and oxidation resistance of Si₃N₄.

Consideration of the specific operating conditions of the customer

To ensure that the ceramic die can withstand the high tensile stresses that occur in this process, it is usually shrunk into a steel holder. This requires a very precise design taking into account the customer’s specific operating conditions.

Typical examples are drawing rings for steel wire or deep-drawing dies for shaping cooking pots.
