30 September 2016 − The takeover of Philips’ quartz and specialty glass production at the Winschoten site in the Netherlands by the innovative and globally active materials specialist QSIL, based in Ilmenau, Germany, has been successfully completed.

From now on, the Dutch facility will operate under the name QSIL Nederland B.V.

The purchase agreement signed by QSIL and Philips in July 2016 was completed as of September 30, 2016, after satisfactory fulfillment of all closing conditions. Both the works council and the trade unions had already supported the purchase after the takeover plans were presented at the end of August 2016.

Delegations from QSIL Germany were on site in the Netherlands for the ceremonial handover of the Winschoten site. During the celebrations, employees from both plants took the opportunity to get to know each other and learn more about each other’s sites. Overall, the mood of both workforces was clearly positive with regard to the future common path.

Through this acquisition, QSIL further expands its technological base and acquires an absolute quality leader in the production of quartz glass tubes and rods. “We can now offer all our customers in the light source, semiconductor or chemical industries the full range of tubes and rods – manufactured in both single-stage and two-stage processes – depending on which process has the most merit for the individual customer,” explained Stephan Behr, CEO of QSIL. The company is thus noticeably catching up with its major competitors in the quartz glass market, Behr added.
