6 September 2019 − A Thuringian success story goes on: QSIL continues on its growth path with the purchase of FCT Ingenieurkeramik GmbH.

The Thuringian materials specialist QSIL from Ilmenau continues the strategic expansion of its technology and solution expertise with the acquisition of FCT Ingenieurkeramik GmbH. With the positive experience from the integration of QSIL Ceramics GmbH from Auma-Weidatal at the beginning of 2019 and the tailwind from the core business, QSIL Group customers now also have access to products made from non-oxide ceramics such as aluminum nitride, silicon carbide and silicon nitride. The previous owner decided in the context of the age succession for QSIL as new majority owner – and thus completely in the sense of its coworkers for a successful medium-size enterprise from Thuringia.

FCT Engineering Ceramics (FCTI) offers customized ceramic materials and customized products – from prototypes to small and medium series to highly specific mass products. The company thus fits perfectly into the QSIL Group’s self-image. All customers and all sites of the QSIL Group will thus mutually benefit from the bundled know-how of the ceramics experts.

With the acquisition of FCTI, QSIL Group expands its product offering in engineering ceramics for its customers towards a one-stop-shop solution. In addition, QSIL strengthens the semiconductor technology, mechanical engineering, life science and aerospace business areas with FCTI. QSIL Ceramics is already very well positioned in the diagnostics and safety technology business areas. The range of solutions is complemented by the quartz glass sites in Ilmenau and Winschoten (NL), which are very strongly positioned in the semiconductor industry and fiber optics.

Michael Keitz, CEO of QSIL AG, is highly satisfied with the gain from Rauenstein. “With FCTI, we were able to attract a company to QSIL that is very innovative and forward-looking. With this acquisition, we underpin our value proposition to our customers: ‘We make progress possible’. In the coming months, it will be important to launch joint projects and leverage mutual strengths for all sites.”

Company Profile FCT Engineering Ceramics

FCT Ingenieurkeramik stands for more than 30 years of experience and expertise in the production of high-performance ceramic materials and composites. The specialty is silicon nitride and silicon carbide-based ceramic materials. Using modern equipment, components with different shaping and sintering techniques are manufactured from these – usually specifically according to application-specific requirements of customers and partners. The complete process line from powder to ready-to-install ceramic components is available at the locations in Rauenstein and Sonneberg.

Prototypes, special components and small to medium series are produced from optimized or customized ceramic materials. Even particularly large, complex and high-precision components are more of a challenge than a problem. A wide range of different services continues to be offered with the facilities, which are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and optimized in daily operation.
